Yard of the Month June 2025

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee would like to award June’s Yard of the Month to Thomas and Traci Hays at 1933 State Route 9. The couple has lived in this charming home for seven years, but Thomas grew up there as a child. Their landscaping includes several areas decorated with beautiful Purple Irises, Mountain Bluet, Black Eyed Susan, Daylilies, Hostas and Hydrangeas. Traci takes great pride in her yard and spends hours each week caring for her plants. She always chooses specific flowers to assist with pollination. Her hanging baskets of Red geraniums are currently providing a safe nest for a family of cardinals. Congratulations to Thomas and Traci!

Business of the Month May 2025

The new Rumpled Queen restaurant on Broadway was an easy choice for the May Business of the Month Award. It’s not only beautifully appointed on the outside with a variety of flowers, bushes, trees and an outdoor dining area complete with water feature, it’s beautifully appointed on the inside with thrifted finds, antiques and collected treasures. Annie Gano, owner and head chef, wanted to create a space where people could come and feel at home while enjoying good food. The original building had concrete up to the front door, but Annie wanted a landscape that exuded character and charm, so she added a brick sidewalk with room for flowers and bushes. She credits her mom and sister for the seasonal plantings and the ever changing flower pots welcoming customers at the front door. The Rumpled Queen is truly a family affair and welcomes you and your family to come and share good times and good food.

Yard of the Month May 2025

The Salem Beautification Committee has started their search for the 2025 “House of the Month” winners. The well-deserved May award goes to Ryan and Sidney Connolly of 351 Washington Ave. The Connolly’s have lived in their home since 2020, and each year, have added more color and interest through annuals, perennials and cozy seating options. Sidney is truly a three season gardener. This spring, one could find daffodils, tulips, purple hyacinths, azaleas, rhodederon, lily of the valley and bleeding hearts adorning her front yard. The backyard hosts a variety of tropical plants with lillies, hibiscus, mandevillas and palms. Ryan came up with the idea of a rose garden in the back as well. The Connollys wanted a lot of color and entertaining spaces to host family and friends. Be sure to keep an eye out for their new plantings come summer. It will truly be a treat for the eyes. Congratulations, Sidney and Ryan!
